==Developer's description <ref>http://coincrypt.tumblr.com/post/127274587933/he-duelist-dlc</ref>== The Duelist’s design is based off of Assassin Blue, the titular character from one of Greg’s earliest games. In his original game, Blue is a showy swordfighter and government assassin who turns against his employer and quits the killer life. In Coin Crypt, the Duelist is a champion lootmancer who has come to the island to defend his title. Contrary to what they’d have you believe, the deities were not the original creators of magical coins; the coins first came from the Earth itself, and anybody with practical knowledge can make their own, too. They’ve been in circulation for all of recorded history and so individuals like the Duelist who treat their use like sport are less rare than you’d think. That said, the Duelist’s knowledge and mastery of classical duel lootmancing is nigh unparalleled by anybody on the island.

Each time the Duelist starts a new floor, he has a nearly 100% debuff to his loot finding abilities. But with each enemy he beats, every chest on the floor grows by an exponentially increasing amount, and when he clears a floor of enemies, his loot bonus will be past double. Essentially, the Duelist is always gambling on each fight he goes into with the chests on the level. At his most efficient, the Duelist will abstain from most chests to just barely squeak through every fight and get the biggest payoff at the end of the level. Pushing it too far either way will have him running out of coins very quickly. Unlike most characters, the Duelist practically requires defeating every enemy the game offers. For this reason, versatility and enemy knowledge are some of the most important skills a Duelist player can have, not to mention some guts.
